Andrew: Mosquitoes

Hi! I want to tell you about something that I really, really don't like. It is called MOSQUITOES!!! You can see from these pictures how painful they are. They don't have them much in America, but here, since we are closer to the equator, there are lots of them. Mosquitoes like warm places, like Hawaii (I read that recently in Soul Surfer). I hope you don't get bitten a lot. I get big, big welts from the mosquito bites. Abby, Mommy and Daddy get bitten but don't get the welts because they are immune to them. I get welts and itch and itch and itch and it drives me crazy. I have 20 bites right now!

P.S. from Mom: "He is getting the biggest welts I have ever seen- 2 inches across on his arms! I have to give him Benadryl to sleep at night." :-(

  1. Andrew,

I hate mosquito bites, too. Have you ever read the story Why Mosquitoes Buzz In People's Ears? It's a great story!

I'm sure you've already found some things that work, but here are some possible solutions to the itch.

My favorite uses an ingredient you probably have sitting in a bowl on your kitchen countertop: Use banana peel to take the itch out of mosquito bites. Just rub the pulpy inside surface of the peel on the bite.

    Or try these remedies:

    1. Rub the bite with soap.
    2. Apply an ice pack to the bite.
    3. Mix baking soda with enough water to make a paste and apply to the bite.
    4. Apply lavender and tea tree oils with a swab.
    5. Rub a piece of freshly-cut onion on the bite.
    6. A dab of toothpaste is soothing, too.

I hope one of these things will help you feel better. Where we live, we have lots of mosquitoes, too (we're on a flood plain, so it stays marshy in the woods behind our house--the perfect place to hatch mosquitoes!

Now I need to look at how to keep them from liking the taste of you!

  3. Hi again Andrew! This is my 2nd attempt to reply to you! I am just not a "teckie" I guess! I, too, am very allergic to mosquitos - the only one in my family and I recieved NO SYMPATHY from anyone! I finally found something that helps with the stinging/itching: an ITCH ERASER - found in drug stores - it smells like it has amonia in it. It looks like a MarksAlot pen, but is white plastic with a felt tip that exudes a clear liquid to rub on the bites! love to you, ant lee
